Cleaning and descaling are separate routines
Identify the exact Vertuo model before copying a button sequence. Cleaning flushes the machine as its instructions describe; descaling uses the manufacturer's named solution in a different maintenance routine. A shared Vertuo badge does not make every control or signal interchangeable.

Before a water-only cleaning cycle
Remove the used capsule as the manual directs, empty the used-capsule container and drip tray, and prepare the tank and a sufficiently large collecting container. Clean removable parts only in the ways allowed for your particular machine. Do not infer dishwasher permission from a similar-looking model.
Look at the named routine before you press the button: an owner trying to flush the coffee path should not add descaler and enter a different mode. If an alert is already showing, record the colour and pattern first so you can distinguish it from the cleaning cycle's own signal.
Next, Pop and Plus do not have the same finish check
The Next and Pop manuals describe starting their cleaning routine with three button presses within two seconds. Follow the matching section for container size, timing and how it stops. The Plus assistance page also describes a three-press cleaning start, but its cleaning output and steady-green ready signal belong to the Plus; they are not a universal Vertuo light chart.
For descaling, the Next and Pop sources describe a separate water rinse and a steady button at completion, followed by 10 minutes before use. Plus uses a different menu exit after its documented rinse: button and lever down together for 3 seconds, then steady green. A cleaning start is not that exit command.
When the problem is an orange light after descaling
Use the model-first orange-light guide. For a Next paused in the procedure, the Next descaling-stage checklist separates an alert, active flow and a pause awaiting a documented action. Neither page promises that extra tanks of water clear an unidentified fault.
Do not add another dose of descaler simply because a light remains. First establish the actual mode, the last completed stage and the required finish signal.
