Is AeroPress Dishwasher Safe? Check the Brewer and Each Accessory

Some AeroPress models are dishwasher-safe, but not the Premium: it is hand-wash only. Check the exact brewer and accessory before loading the rack.

What AeroPress Says for Each Model

AeroPress's dishwasher article, checked 17 October 2026, sets the general rule: the Premium is hand-wash only, every other AeroPress coffee maker may go on the top shelf, and the Clear is the exception that may go on the top or bottom shelf.

The Premium has a stricter page of its own. AeroPress states that the Premium is hand-wash only because of its handmade nature, and asks owners not to put it in the dishwasher. Materials do not settle it: the Premium combines glass, aluminum and silicone, yet the maker still keeps it out of the machine.

The two XL generations need separate checks. The AeroPress XL help article says the XL may be washed in the dishwasher on the top rack only. The newer AeroPress Clear XL is a different product: its page says top or bottom rack.

Accessories have their own rules. AeroPress says the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap is top-rack dishwasher-safe, and suggests separating its silicone and metal inserts. The Gold Tone Filter XL is different: AeroPress recommends hand washing it because of the titanium coating. That is a recommendation, not an absolute ban.

Why the Model Name Matters

The XL label is the common trap. The Original XL is top rack only; the Clear XL is top or bottom rack. If your brewer is labelled only "XL", confirm which generation you own before choosing a position.

The Premium is the clearest prohibition: hand-wash only, even on a gentle cycle.

The Mixed-Bundle Trap

AeroPress sells the Premium brewer with the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap, and that bundle mixes two different rules. The cap and its separated inserts may go on the top rack; the Premium brewer may not go in at all. A dishwasher-safe cap does not authorize the whole bundle.

The Gold Tone Filter XL has a softer rule than the Premium. AeroPress recommends hand washing the accessory to protect its titanium coating, so keep it out of the rack if you want to follow the maker's advice exactly.

Rinse Daily, Wash by Hand When Needed

For day-to-day use, AeroPress says a simple rinse is sufficient because the plunger wipes the chamber clean as you brew. Dispose of the grounds and the paper filter first, then rinse the chamber, plunger and cap.

Occasionally remove the food-grade silicone seal from the end of the plunger and wash it inside and out with warm water and dish soap, as the maker recommends. When you do use the dishwasher, load only the parts whose instructions mention it and only on the permitted rack. Disassemble what the maker says can be separated, and hand wash anything whose instruction is silent. Before the next brew, check that the silicone seal sits evenly and that the cap is fully reassembled.

When In Doubt, Hand Wash

If you cannot identify the model or the part, use a gentle hand wash with warm water and dish soap. That default matches AeroPress's guidance for every brewer it sells, including the Premium, and avoids turning a guessed rack position into a damaged finish.

Cleaning a brewer and cleaning a grinder are separate jobs. Coffee oil on a chamber is not the same problem as grounds left inside a grind path; if that is your actual question, our guide to coffee grinder retention explains why input minus output measures one dose's mass balance rather than everything stored in the machine.
